2008 Songs of
Life International Choral Festival a Success
Thousands joined together to commemorate the
heroic rescue of
Bulgaria’s Jews during the Holocaust at
the 2008 Songs of Life International Choral Festival.
The celebration of thanksgiving was held in
Plovdiv and Sofia,
Bulgaria and Tel Aviv and
Jerusalem, Israel Nov. 21 through Dec. 1, 2008.
Choirs and musicians from the United States,
Canada,
Bulgaria and Israel
participated in the premier performance of Ernest Bloch’s
choral-orchestral masterpiece, “Sacred Service.”
The festival also featured a gift of flowers to the
people of Bulgaria
in thanksgiving for the protection of the country’s Jews during the
Holocaust. Festival participants,
representatives of the Organization of the Jews in
Bulgaria
and hundreds of other Jews and Christians distributed 49,000
flowers.
