Come and be a part of the Second Songs of Life Choral - Orchestral Festival

Join the 2010-2011 Songs of Life International Festival for The World Premiere of A Melancholy Beauty, an Oratorio depicting the heroic rescue of the Jews of Bulgaria during World War II.

This original work by Composer Charles David Osborne and Librettist Aryeh Finklestein will be performed Dec. 27, 2010 – Jan. 7, 2011 in Bulgaria and Israel.

The international music festival features conductors Dr. Joshua Jacobson and Professor Henry Leck and brings together singers and instrumentalists from the United States, Canada, Europe and Israel to tell this inspiring story.

Thousands participated in the The First Songs of Life Festival in 2008, which commemorated the 65th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews during the Holocaust. Through Ernest Bloch’s choral-orchestral masterpiece, “Sacred Service,” the celebration of thanksgiving sought to transcend cultural and religions lines.

The 2010-11 Songs of Life International Festival builds on this vision and seeks to champion humanitarian principles by sharing lessons learned from the holocaust. The festival also provides a vehicle to educate students of all ages and demonstrates the difference one group of people can make in the most trying of times.
